Give the gift of memories this Christmas
Christmas Gift Ideas - simple ways to use the power of photos to preserve and share memories this Christmas.
1Scan Vouchers
We can supply a voucher, personalised with to and from message, to deliver photo scanning services in the coming year. You can specify a number / type of images or a service value. Then the lucky recipient can post us their photos, slides or negatives for us to scan. Vouchers are available at any price from £5 to cover any service options. If you pay in advance we'll give an extra 10% discount on our normal rates.
Photobooks
Probably the number one application for clients of photo scanning services or home photo scanning. We have a link to our preferred supplier of photobooks, who are photobox. You can download their software free, then use that at leisure of your PC or Mac to create exactly the photobook you want. You can add coloured backgrounds to your photos, add captions, title your books, include personalised dedications. Photos don't have to be stuck in at rigid angles, you can be creative and place them at an angle, add snazy photo borders. When you're ready hit the button to upload your book to the publishing plant where massively expensive printers will print and bind your work of art.

If you want a simpler approach to photobooks, or you're in a rush, many High Street retailers now have in store photobook printing machines. Less scope for customisation but a quick and convenient way to get your digital images into book form.

Digital Photo Frames
You can get stunning displays of your images from these units. They are digital screens (7 inches or more), backlit, with the ability to store and then run through your images, often adding clever fades or dissolves automatically as they move from one image to another. Even the most basic units offer these effects and if you spend more you can get bigger screens and then more features. Some will play music, some you can load directly from your computer using your Wi-Fi network. Go for a well know make if your budget allows - Phillips, Sony and of course Kodak are good suppliers. On Amazon prices range from £20 up with a decent Kodak unit at £45.

The same approach delivers a small photo frame in the shape of the digital keyring. Take the precious pictures of loved ones and places with you, wherever you go. Amazon is offering a 1.5" screen for just £7.

Slideshows
Photos are memories in digital form, but static images can be a bit dull. We live in an age where we are all educated to expect and appreciate moving images. The slideshow is a great way to take your static images to another level. Using your own PC and even the most basic software you can add a title page, some eye catching special effects and those still photos have become the movie of your memories.

Alternatively we can do this for you for just £9-99. Our photo slideshows are available in three styles, they're supplied on DVD which will play in any PC / Mac or DVD player. Of course we can scan your images to create the slideshow.

Calendars
Suppliers such as photobox also offer a facility to take your images and create a memorable calendar featuring your best shots. Just like photobooks you can add captions, dedications and use special effects. Not just an effective way to show off photos but a useful diary for the whole year.

Alternatively you can have your photos printed and buy a blank calendar that you personalise with your photos. If you're neat with sticking the photos onto the pages you can get a reasonable result, quickly, and you see what you're creating as you go. Available in WH Smith and other stores.

Personalised Christmas Cards
We all have a soft spot for robins, nativity scenes and snowy landscapes but how often have you opened a card and a snapshot drops out? Well why not have a card printed which features that image, printed on the front of the card, with your own personalised message.

Available from online services such as photobox, remember to order early.

Personalised Wrapping Paper
Fujifilm have introduced a special type of photographic paper that can be printed with multiple repeats of a digital image, producing custom wrapping paper. This retails at £4 to £6 per sheet - more than traditional paper but unique to you.

Canvas Prints
After photobooks this is amazingly popular. They combine the personal of your best image with the traditional effect of canvas. Great for family groups, for wedding pictures, for loved ones. If you have a landscape of a cherished place or holiday memory you can do for yourself what Constable did for a whole chunk of East Anglia.

Don't be shy, to get the best effect you should go for a large print with a decent frame. It will need to hang in a location where it can be enjoyed from a reasonable distance. This isn't for a small print in a gloomy alcove. Be bold, you won't regret it.

Acrylic Prints
While the canvas print harks back to traditional portraits others want an approach that's bang up to date. How about printing your image on a glass-like sheet on acrylic? They scream 21st century, are perfect with modern decor in the home or office, they are great at allowing light into and through an image to give it extra lift and impact. Again you can go big to really make a statement but with this approach you can get great results at more modest size images or when you're standing closer to the print.

If you're tempted to go below A4 in size consider having set if prints done, together they'll have stand-out impact in a way a single image never can.

Photogifts
You're spoilt for choice with an almost endless variety of items that can be customised with one or more of your images. Mugs, drinks coasters, iPhone cases, keyrings, fridge magnets, teddy bears, T-shirts, pillow cases - take your pick.

Camera Food
Every photographer chews up storage space at a rate of knots. You can buy digital storage so your loved ones can snap away to their hearts content on cameras or mobile phones. If you know someone with a digital photo frame you can give them a collection of images on a slim storage card, they simply plug it into their frame then sit back and enjoy the memories.

Photo Frames
In these modern times it's easy to overlook the tried and tested. People still love a great photo in a frame. Any High Street with a Boots or M&S will offer a range of frames from modern to traditional, from wood to metal in chrome, brass, silver or gold. Frames have moved with the times too, now you can get some clever designs to display a set of photos, to create your own montage or a strange thing with shiny pegs which hold photos, like a flower with snapshots for petals.

Photo Albums
We may be in a digital age but there's still a lot to be said for the trusty bound collection of photos. Wedding photographers report strong sales of albums to young married couples - maybe there's no getting away from the pull of holding cherished images. Go for something small and portable, or something fit for the most impressive coffee table. Remember today you can get prints made quickly and cheaply not just from our scanned images but also from photos taken on mobile phones or grabbed from Facebook.
