This, from Google Trends, shows how interest in having your photos scanned has increased significantly in the last seven days. This data is taken from the number of searches being made through their search interface for the term “photo scanning”.
It’s good news for us and it very much matches our own experience. Using another Google facility, Webmaster Tools, we can see traffic to our own site is up by a similar amount. Phone enquiries from clients have increased. Perhaps most interestingly calls are significantly up from intermediate clients – for example website designers who’ve had artwork supplied by clients, designers and graphic artists. In some cases we’re picking up business from working from homers who otherwise would use an in-house or local supplier but due to travel restrictions find it easier to use us.
We’re doing more scanning for our typical client – people with their own family photo collections who want them digitised. Batches from professionals tend to be a mix of 35mm slides, medium format transparencies and some great prints. A few serious amateurs have sent us pretty large boxes of slides to scan.
It might not interest you (why should it?) but hardly anyone has sent us a negative to scan since lockdown began. Usually we get a pretty even match between slides and negatives but recently slides have been winning by a long way.
