I’ve had a couple of emails, from China no less. The first, from a Mr Liu, says that he’s been told some unnamed person is about to register various versions of 1Scan on Chinese domains.
I replied, I know, you shouldn’t rise to the bait, and said they’d be welcome to go ahead. That I had a HUGE reputation in the UK, and nothing anyone could do on the other side of the bamboo curtain could impact my business. Publish and be damned.
Earlier today I got another email. Yes, another person says he’s going to ignore the advice of Mr Liu and go ahead with variations on 1Scan on the Chinese part of the internet. I couldn’t resist a tart reply saying we in the West are familiar with Chinese practices of stealing Western intellectual property. For all I know this is some kind of scam and I expect to get a third email saying alright, we’ll stop – providing you pay us so much in bitcoin. Which is where the joke stops being funny and I deploy the spam filter.
But, just in case, well, you never know. If you find a photo, slide or negative scanning company sounding exactly like 1Scan but with a CN domain registration you can be certain it isn’t me. Honest.
